Greek dessert with orange and yogurt Portokalopita Quick and easy recipe
Greek dessert with orange and Portokalopita yogurt. Greek names have always fascinated me, Portokàlopita means cake (pita) of oranges (portokàlia) ... and everything comes back: in Naples we call oranges "purtual". But it should not surprise us, there are many terms in our language that derive from Greek. This dessert is made with phyllo dough (I had some leftover from the preparation of the spring rolls a few days ago), Greek yogurt and untreated oranges. The orange syrup and the preparation so different from the usual intrigued me and the result was really great! Ingredients for a 20 × 30 cm pan
for the orange glaze:
- 400 grams of granulated sugar
- 350 ml of water
- the juice of 1 organic orange
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
For the dessert:
- 500 gr of filo pastry
- 3 organic oranges (untreated)
- 5 eggs
- 200 gr of Greek yogurt
- 180 ml of olive oil
- 100 gr of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
How to prepare Greek dessert with orange and Portokalopita yogurt
The first thing to do is unroll the phyllo dough sheets and let them thaw.
in the meantime, prepare the orange glaze: put all the ingredients in a saucepan and add the squeezed orange peel, put it on the stove, bring to a boil and cook for 8 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the icing cool.
grease the pan you will use with oil (I used two small ones-20x 15-, but the ingredients indicated are for a 20 × 30 cm pan)
tear with your hands, in an irregular way, the sheets of phyllo dough, and place them in the pan in a single layer. Keep aside and let them dry while you prepare the dessert.
cut an orange in half ... cut one half into slices (you will need them for the final decoration). Grate the zest of the remaining oranges (2 and 1/2).
put all the ingredients in a bowl: sugar, grated orange peel ...
.... the eggs, the orange juice, the oil, the yogurt and the baking powder, mix well with an electric mixer for a couple of minutes at high speed until they become frothy.
pour the mixture on the phyllo dough base and mix with a spoon so that it is absorbed, finally add the previously cut orange slices. Bake for 40-45 minutes at 180 ° in a static oven.
immediately after taking the docle out of the oven, which will be golden on the outside and dry on the inside, pour all the icing on the cake. and let the cake flavor for at least an hour before serving.
And here is Portokàlopita, your Greek dessert with orange and yogurt. Enjoy your meal!
