Apple strudel Quick and easy recipe
Apple strudel (mini): typical dessert of the areas that were once under the Austro-Hungarian domination (Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia), it is definitely the dessert that most of all reminds me of Northern Italy, my family does not like a lot… .but I like it so I prepared a mini version just for myself 🙂 cutting a sheet of pasta in two and with the remaining part I prepared other puff pastry sweets: the Prussian ones. Try making this strudel ... .. hoping not to have excessively "violated" the original recipe!
In fact, I made some changes related to my personal taste: the original recipe calls for "breadcrumbs toasted in butter" (I used chopped biscuits), pine nuts (I used walnuts), and cinnamon which I hate and so I didn't put it :), some use the pastry as a base, others the shortcrust pastry, still others (the purists) the strudel dough (I used the ready-made dough).
Ingredients for 1 strudel
- 1 roll of puff pastry
- 2 apples
- 2 tablespoons of raisins
- 4 walnuts (or 2 tablespoons of pine nuts)
- 4 shortbread biscuits
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
How to make apple strudel
The ingredients I have indicated are for 1 whole strudel, obtained with 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry (Buitoni), but in the procedure you will see photos of a smaller strudel obtained by cutting the pastry roll in half (without unrolling it).
First of all, peel the apples, cut them into slices 3-4 mm thick, put them in a bowl with the juice of one lemon
chop the shortbread biscuits in the mixer, also add a few walnuts;
melt the butter (I put a small piece in a glass and put it in the microwave oven) brush the melted butter all over the surface of the rolled out puff pastry, put a layer of ground biscuits on the pastry leaving the edges without cookie
add the drained apples, then the raisins and a few more coarsely chopped walnuts, sprinkle with a spoonful of sugar, add half a spoonful of ground cinnamon (if you like),
roll up from the longest side and wrap on itself, close the flaps tightly and place the strudel on parchment paper in a baking dish, cook for 30 minutes at 200 °, mine was already cooked after 15 minutes because it was smaller, however it will be cooked when it has a nice golden color.
sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve. Enjoy your meal!
