Spanish Churros Fried Sticks Quick and easy recipe
Spanish Churros or churritos are typical Spanish sweets. Soft sticks of choux pastry, fried and sprinkled with sugar. Only a few ingredients: flour, water and salt, for one of the most characteristic products of Spain. They are widespread throughout the country (even in South America) and there are special places (or street vendors) "s churrerias" the equivalents of our bars, which sell these sweets almost always accompanied by a cup of hot chocolate or cappuccino. Making them at home is very simple but arm yourself with a good pastry syringe or the appropriate tool (syringe for churros and biscuits) because the dough is a little hard.
Ingredients for about 35 churros
- 500 ml of water
- 50 grams of flour 00
- 5 gr of salt
- peanut oil for frying
- 2-3 tablespoons of granulated or icing sugar
- cinnamon (optional)
Spanish Churros how to prepare them
Prepare all ingredients and tools on the work surface. Attention you need a pastry syringe or a pastry bag that is quite resistant as the dough will be quite hard. Sift the flour and keep it aside.
Put the water and salt in a saucepan, and let it come to a boil. once it comes to a boil, remove the pot from the heat.
Pour the flour all together and mix with a wooden spoon, until the mixture is smooth
Put a few tablespoons of the mixture in the pastry syringe and make your churros using the larger star nozzle. You can make a single long strip to cut later in the length you prefer.
Churros generally have the shape of sticks of about 12-15 cm, but they are often also made in the shape of a drop / petal. Test the first to see if the oil is hot enough: if they start to sizzle as soon as they are immersed then the oil is at the right temperature.
Fry for a few minutes, until you get a nice golden color. Put them on absorbent paper and pour the sugar on your churros and your churros are ready to be enjoyed with cappuccino or hot chocolate!
